What is SDG ACT5 in Daimaru-yu?

SDGs ACT5 is a city-wide SDG challenge that transcends the boundaries of companies and organizations to achieve the SDG targets for 2030. This year, the third year of the initiative, the core period was from May 9 (Monday) to November 30 (Wednesday), and various actions were taken under the five themes of "Sustainable Food," "Environment," "Well-Being," "Diversity and Inclusion," and "Communication.

Ecommit participated in the "Environment" theme by setting up Re;POST collection and circulation boxes in 13 areas throughout Daimaru-Yu, collecting unused clothing, hats, belts, bags, and other items. The program encouraged individuals to take simple and easy-to-understand actions for the environment by donating their unwanted items to the next person instead of throwing them away. At the same time, one company was responsible for the entire process of collection, sorting, redistribution, and recycling, contributing to the reuse and recycling of items that would otherwise be thrown away.

The collection period this time was three months. Many people took environmental action during the collection period, and the total amount of waste collected was 1,373.2 kg. The amount of items dropped off by those who participated increased nearly 1.5 to 2 times each month. This was also a period during which we felt the need and response of those who were seeking this kind of action, as many people in Japan said, "I don't want to throw it away, but I have no choice but to throw it away," or "It's too much trouble and I just throw it away.

We received such actions from people who said, "I don't want to throw it away even though I don't wear it, and I would like someone else to wear it anyway! I was using it when I didn't want to throw it away and wanted someone else to wear it!", "I decided to organize the clothes in my house after seeing Re;POST", "It's a shame to end the collection period just as the awareness of the POST is increasing in the area! I wish you would do the same kind of collection again!" We have received these kinds of comments.

For those who dropped off unused clothing and other items at the Re;POST, we linked up with the point system and gave them ACT5 Member Points, which can be exchanged for SDGs rewards or for Marunouchi Points.

Environmental actions that are citywide and not limited to one company, in conjunction with other companies, residents, and users, can have a greater impact on the future and the world. We will continue to strengthen our brand area, including our own initiative, and collaborate with companies to actively create events + participatory actions + project activities.
